Revellers roam the makeshift halls, pausing for fleeting peep shows in hidden booths, whimsical bubble acts, and the promise of momentary absolution through confession. Champagne is already flowing via surprising means and a roving magician enchants with feats of close-up illusion.
Our dapper maître d’ Val keeps everyone loose and carefree as we are introduced to a variety of pleasures, including drag, burlesque, circus, and magic. Each performer brings their own flair to the stage, resulting in a dizzying mix of spectacle, humour, and unexpected thrills. The cast find numerous ways to pull the audience into the fun, with quick but effective interactions that keep us laughing but also on our toes.
Drag queen Jimi the Kween is saucy as ever, serving some titillating musical numbers that leave the audience grinning, captivated, and perhaps even a bit aroused! Naz Turner wows the room with his showstopping balancing acrobatics, displaying extraordinary strength, pinpoint precision, and flawless timing. Magic man Sebastian Rideaux proves that the limit truly does not exist, delivering a performance that impossibly keeps giving and giving.
Former Miss Burlesque Australia Diesel Darling leaves her audience gleaming with delight in a shimmering, champagne-infused piece, with every splash and sparkle a flirtatious tease. If champagne isn’t your sort of bubbles, Becky Bubble provides a different kind of fizz with a mesmerizing bubble routine beautifully accompanied by a French take on the near-century-old classic “Dream a Little Dream of Me.” There is also a rotation of guest performers and on this night, we are fortunate enough to see Aleisha Manion make her Piper’s Playhouse debut with a new spin on a hoop act with athletic grace and playfulness.
This two-hour cabaret is packed with marvellous sensations, many of which we won’t spoil here to preserve the element of surprise and wonder. It's a slick, well-oiled production where plenty of thought has gone into more than simply the performances. Everything from the design of the space, costuming and the inventive food and drinks on offer - some that are sure to have you squealing like a sexy dolphin. The term gets bandied around a lot, but if you're after an evening of escapism and decadent fun, Piper’s Playhouse is not to be missed.
