Different Party review - Melbourne International Comedy Festival

This year's Melbourne International Comedy Festival has hosted a variety of shows that has fortunately included a large number being performed where it hurt too much to laugh. Different Party is no exception, being a perfect example of sketch, physical comedy, storytelling and mime all coming together for a hilarious hour of comedy you never want to end.

Dennis Chang and Grareth Krubb are Consultation Specialists at Ruck's Leather Interiors and we are privy to observe a regular day at the office for the two businessmen. However, when these two characters are played by Barnie Duncan (Weekend At Barnie's) and Trygve Wakenshaw (Nautilus), you know that a regular day for them is going to be extremely entertaining one for us.

The two are great storytellers with impeccable comedy timing and they know exactly how long to run with a joke for maximum effect before reeling it back in and allowing the audience to have a breather. Duncan and Wakenshaw possess an innate skill in finding humour in the smallest of tasks and everyday objects, which is also evident in their previous works. To reveal even one of their brilliant delights from Different Party would rob you of the surprise and discovery, but I absolutely guarantee that after seeing this show you will never be able to look at a piece of paper the same way again.

Whatever is happening in Wakenshaw and Duncan's heads, I hope it keeps happening because Different Party is full of laughs and joy. If these guys are not on your comedy festival must-see list, then you are missing out on some of the smartest comedy being created.
